Socrates was a wise man from Greece who lived a long time ago. He didn't write any books but he was famous for talking to people and asking them questions. People called this way of talking the "Socratic method." He liked to challenge what people believed and make them think deeply. Some people in Athens liked him, but others were afraid of him.
One day, Socrates was accused of being disrespectful to the gods and for teaching young people bad things. He went to a trial and was found guilty. The punishment was for him to drink a poison that would make him die. Even though people tried to help him escape, Socrates chose to die because he believed in doing the right thing.
Even though Socrates is not alive anymore, people still remember him today because of the things he taught and the way he thought. He inspired many people to think for themselves and question what they believed.
